Before buying
Before buying any over-the-counter (OTC) medication, always check the package and/or label for the following information:
- Expiry date — verify that the product is still effective
- Dosage information — ensure proper dosage amount
- Possible side effects — be aware of potential side effects
- Possible interactions — understand whether it is safe to take with certain health conditions and/or with other medication you or your family members may be taking
- Pregnant or nursing women — verify whether the product is safe to use if you are pregnant or nursing; if you’re unsure, always speak to a pharmacist or doctor
Product storage
- Keep your OTC medication in a cool, dry place. Never store your medication in the bathroom, car or where the product is exposed to extreme temperatures.
- Ensure children can’t reach or access OTC medication.
- Keep medication in its original packaging for access to dosage, warnings and expiry information.
- Always discard medication that is past its expiry date.
- Discard medication that looks discoloured or damaged in any way.
